We know how hard it can be to find that perfect gift. That's why we would like to introduce you to a new DVD that is sure to please everyone in the family, but most importantly, your favorite railfan!

STEAM ON THE MOUNTAIN takes you for a ride in the shadow of California's Mount Shasta behind a ninety-year-old classic Baldwin 2-8-2. The engine, No. 18, is running over the same rails it did when it was delivered before World War I. A rare feat for any locomotive.

This film is much more than a photo run-by. You'll get a real feel for this locomotive as you ride along side the engineer in the cab and listen to his recollections of the railway. Hillside views and tight shots of the drivers and rods in action put you right there -- you can almost feel the vibration as the engine rumbles past.

"I just got done watching the DVD, and I am very impressed. Thank you for doing this." --J. Moore, Spring Creek, NV

"This title is a delight. The commentary provided by the engineer was different from most such titles. It was informative and educational as well. The video was well done from start to finish." --G. Jacobs, Hendersonville, NC

"The views of the train are spectacular. I enjoyed this video and learned a lot about how steam locomotives are operated. The vintage Baldwin is a beautiful locomotive, and seeing and hearing her work was delightful." --B. Brown, Editor of the Narrow Gauge & Short Line Gazette, Nov/Dec 2005

Engine No. 18 was delivered to McCloud new from the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1914. It was the height of technology with Walshaerts valve gear, superheaters, and piston valves. Its short drivers made it perfect for hauling heavy loads along the steep mountain grades of this classic railroad.

You will ride on the train, in the cab, on the tender, and even on the side of the engine as she pulls a passenger train through the beautiful pine forests of the Cascade Range.

Veteran McCloud engineer Malen Johnson talks at length about the operation of the locomotive and the challenges of getting it over a mountain railroad. You'll learn about running a steam engine from close-up shots in the cab that make you part of the engine crew. You'll watch the engineer handle the throttle and the brakes. You'll see the fireman adjusting the atomizer and sanding the flues. And you'll hear the moan of the whistle echo through the pine trees.

Dramatic shots of the driving wheels are taken just a few feet from the flailing steel rods. You'll see the drivers slipping and grabbing as the engine tries to get its footing on a steep grade.

You'll almost feel the wind as you ride in the vestibule on the fastest part of the railroad. You'll watch from the hillside as No. 18 charges past. You'll hear rolling thunder in a hailstorm as the train disappears around the curve and through the trees.
